About Me |
I graduated with my Masters in Counseling in 2011 and have been in private practice in Yakima since moving back up here in 2014. I enjoy working with people of all ages, with all kinds of different issues. I think I work best with people that have faith in a higher power or who are at least willing to explore spirituality as a conduit for change, but am by no means confined to that.
People often ask me what my specialty is. This is a tough question because I really do feel like I specialize in people. I get bored easily and would get tired of only seeing kids or only adults or only people struggling with addiction. I give people diagnoses so that insurance will pay for sessions or if it helps you make sense of what is going on but more important to me than trying to fit you into a box is to understand your unique thoughts and individual strengths and struggles. I grew up in the Yakima valley, graduating from West Valley High School. I went to Brigham Young University for my undergraduate degree where I made the best decision of my life in asking my wife to marry me. After working in a cubicle at the VA for a year while she finished her degree, I moved down to San Antonio, TX where I completed my Master's degree at Our Lady of the Lake University. I was interested in their program because they had an emphasis on doing counseling in Spanish and I recognized that there is a need for good Spanish speaking therapists. |
We now have six children and our life is absolutely crazy! But also a lot of fun. We began fostering in 2019 and have since adopted two little boys that have turned our lives upside down and have challenged us in ways we had never thought of before. It has been a master class in understanding the effects of trauma and the healing nature of love, acceptance, firm boundaries, and a lot of grace.
